Mold growth occurs when the conditions are right. Principally, this means moisture (humidity), low levels of light and tropical temperatures. Mold will usually follow a flood or other significant fluid spill that was not cleaned up thoroughly or treated.

Mold can trigger allergies, cause disease or inflict flu-like symptoms.

First, the area must be treated for the flood that caused this. Drying processes tend to be more extensive, since by the time mold is growing it means that the site has been flooded for quite some time. Air may be pumped into the walls and radical excisions of building material may be necessary.

After the relative humidity falls back below safe thresholds, the entirety of the area is wiped down and sprayed with anti-microbial chemicals that not only decimate the mold growths but even help prevent such problems in the future.
